With Android One if your phone started with an Oreo then you are guaranteed to have an Android Mi A1 started with Nougat so it is guaranteed to have up to Android 9. A MiA1 is still a good Smartphone. But meanwhile i am loosing my believe in Xiaomi. They do now the same thing like all the other manufacturers and bringing to many different unit to the market, so that support is hell for them. Especially if you have to produce updates for each phone separately. Google knows that too. Google updates the system, the chipset producer delivers the needed drivers and the manufacturer put it in their desktop. Works great for windows and Linux, why not for Android?
