Meanwhile, Monika is no longer able to manipulate the game and prevent the player from getting closer to the other girls. The mod, created by Team Salvation, follows the linear storyline, generally speaking, and while it does have a bias towards Sayori, it treats all of the girls fairly.
Whether or not the ending is good depends entirely upon the player's choices - it is, however, guaranteed to be different from the original one, no matter what! Have you ever wished that Doki Doki Literature Club was a more traditional dating sim? No matter what your answer is, Purist will turn it into one! Beginning at the end of Act 1, each girl has her own individual route that can result in multiple endings.
The characters' backstories are deepened and fleshed out more with this mod, and the player is even given the opportunity to help them with their problems. The Yuri Parable , by Animystix, shifts the focus of the game to Yuri, another member of the Literature Club, allowing her to step into the role of the protagonist.
While the mod is, as its name implies, inspired by another game, The Stanley Parable , it brings something completely unique to the table for Doki Doki Literature Club , including a stunning OST.
There are multiple endings that depend on choices made by the player throughout the game, with a handful of easter eggs to discover along the way.
Monika Before Story , created by CampinKate, approaches the game with the premise that MC is the president of the Literature Club and Monika is his childhood friend in place of Sayori, who is now just a classmate. It opens a lot more doors for the player, such as solving arguments easier and having a chance to spend the weekend with Sayori and Monika without being guilt-tripped out of it by Natsuki and Yuri.
Depending on what constitutes as an ending for you, there are approximately 10 different endings available. In spite of its name, Monika Before Story has date routes and new poems for all four members of the club, all while holding true to the nature of Doki Doki Literature Club by using deleting files as a game mechanic.
Monika After Story , by MonikaModDev, is exactly what it sounds like: an expansion of Monika and the MC's story now that she's taken care of all those other distractions.
It picks up right where Doki Doki Literature Club ended, and MC has found himself in a blissful relationship with his girlfriend, Monika.
It boasts a new dialogue system that has hours' worth of conversation about everything under the sun, from existentialism to gaming. There are even games and activities for the two of them to do, like listening to music and playing games like chess!
Longer Roads , by Tr00perTayl0r90, expands on the game exponentially by providing a multi-route experience with 10 different endings for players to unlock.
Each girl gets a route of her own and a story that focuses entirely on her, giving the MC an opportunity to step up and change the course of her life. In the nature of the game, the mod does include darker themes, and not every ending is a happy one But the beautifully layered gameplay experience is worth the risk.
The Good Ending , created by a team lead by Sam Capener, is a completely linear mod that manages to stay faithful to the original game, while still adding an entirely new level of emotional power. Its plot follows the Dokis as they experience the harrowing events of Act 1 and Act 2 time and time again, having their memories wiped each time it ends She looked at you, asking what you did to the game, confusing Yuri as you went on to explain.
The thing is, you have been playing with the game for a while, not only trying the original title, but also trying some mods. There was one particular mod for the game, very recent actually, where you can have more control.
Monika was sweating at what that meant, only finding herself feeling a little dizzy. Monika, the most urgent and mindful of the cast, tried to fight back against the new programming installed as she was fully aware of her existence as a fictional character.
You admittedly enjoyed the internal fight, as seeing Monika managing to hack the game deemed interesting. But now it was time for her to relax on that, to let you have the decisions and control of the lovely girls in the room.
Yuri was no problem, her state of confusion and concern made her quite vulnerable to the programming of the mod, slowly giving a big smile as her pretty purple eyes were replaced with ongoing rings and swirls. She whimpered as her mind was numb, but her worried words soon turned into blissful compliments, all for you as Yuri was now submitting to the mod, becoming your new pretty slave. Monika sweated, the screen glitching and jittering as she was still struggling.
You just kicked back, waiting for the mod to run its course and have Monika in a mindless, obedient state. Monika questioned why you were doing it as she thought you loved her and her friends.
While true, it was a fun thought to see them all hypnotized, so why not have that happen? That, and a friend of yours heard about the mod, not minding of having the entranced Yuri in his game. Monika was tired, no longer able to fight back, finally letting the programming consume her and take her thoughts away. Monika was leaning a bit, just to have a closer look at her beloved master.
Her turn was complete, both her and Yuri now yours under the wonderful, hacking trance. Took long enough for me to make a DDLC doodle, eh? One thing that I wanted to really try for this doodle was get down some of the aesthetics of DDLC down, like the pink word boxes and dialogue, to feel like you really did have the girls hypnotized.
The mod has a total of 5 possible endings and will still of course depend on player decisions throughout the game. What appeared to be a typical anime dating simulator at first glance, quickly turned into an emotional horror-tinged story, setting it apart from other games in the visual novel space. Purist is a great expansion as it adds over 11 hours of playable content, and even includes completely custom artwork and music to match.
This mod aims to remedy that by taking the story from when things start to go wrong towards the end of Act 1. Even being able to spend time at the actual festival with the girls. The mod adds a whole new week at the literature club, along with routes for each of the girls and 2 different endings to unlock. Doki Doki might have made its mark for some of its darker content.
There are a lot of options when it comes to comedy mods for DDLC, and while they are meant to be funny, you might be surprised at how good some of these actually are.
The mod takes place in the summertime obviously where Sayori invites you to join her for a day at the pool. While Sayori invites MC to a sun-filled pool party in Doki Doki Summertime, Coldest Summer offers yet another alternative storyline for the childhood best friends. Doki Doki Relapse sees MC regaining memory of the events that took place in Act 1, but does not quite know why.
DDLC Nightmare takes a full-on horror approach to the game, as it was actually made as a result of a mod challenge where the author received horror as their assigned theme. Another major theme touched on by DDLC is the issue of mental health. Modder Tormuse wanted to focus on that specific aspect and develop it even further, and the result can be seen in his True Literature Club mod. He felt that suicide and depression were mostly used for shock value in the original game and wanted to create a version where these topics were dealt with more sensitively.
